Our doves are "Homing Pigeons" also known
as "Rock Doves" that are carefully trained to fly
long distances back to their home loft. They are very strong
and healthy. After the release they will circle a few times
and then head back to the comfort and safety of their home base.
They are capable of flying hundreds of miles when properly conditioned,
so "local" releases (Reno Sparks vicinity) are not
much of an effort. They are banded with my telephone number,
so in the event they would get lost on the way home, they can
be identified and returned to us. We will not release a bird
that is not healthy or properly trained to fly the distance
from the release site back to the home loft. While the doves
are not "tame", they are accustomed to being held.
We will work with you to insure that you are comfortable handling
the doves if you choose a hand release.
They live in a spacious loft with plenty of fresh
air, sunshine, nutritious food and clean water. They are also
vaccinated against disease. Releasing white doves is not only
beautiful, but also safe for the birds and completely natural.
| 1. We maintain only properly banded healthy,
white homing pigeons who are well trained to return home
when released. White homing pigeons are the only type of
bird that can be trained to fly home. The release of untrained
pigeons or any other type of white bird is an unacceptable
alternative because they are unable to navigate home or
survive in the wild. |
| 2. We release our trained birds only from
distances from which they can safely fly home. |
| 3. We release our birds only when there
is sufficient time for them to return home prior to sunset.
|
| 4. We will only release our birds outside
and only under favorable weather conditions that allow them
to safely navigate home. Inclement weather such as rain,
thunderstorms, fog, high winds and snow are conditions in
which our birds cannot safely navigate. |
| 5. We ensure that an experienced, punctual,
properly attired coordinator accompanies our birds to each
event. Providing birds for self release is an unacceptable
alternative. |
